Like a Teacher

Somewhere amid the unironed clothes,
The incomplete journals and the
Everyday remnants of living
Is the courage, the stamina and the drive
To sleep at night
To rise in the morning
And face the faces of teens and tweens
Who realize not how important they truly are
Because amid the slamming locker doors,
Chewed gum and dropped items in the hallways
Stands someone who remembers how hard it was
To be that age
And feel important to anyone.
