Fun: Day 11: Maybe I’ll Make it to 50

Standard

Day 11: For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Maybe (blank);” replace the blank with a word or phrase; make the new phrase the title of your poem; and then, write the poem. Some example titles might be: “Maybe I should’ve read the instructions first,” “Maybe I was wrong,” “Maybe the world is flat,” or whatever else y’all can muster. I admit that my brain is a little exhausted. (source: poeticasides.org)

Maybe I’ll make it to 50

My goal for age 40 was to snow ski in Colorado.
I did.
And I’ve raised two sons.
And I parasailed over Lake Tahoe,
and did indoor skydiving in Orlando.

Most recently I stood on the southern rim of the Grand Canyon.
With those two sons.
Who stood there with me for brief moments as they
Engaged the rim in a game of chicken
“Mom, take a picture,” they instructed, laughing.

It looks as if they’re hanging onto a flat canyon rock
Before falling miles to their respective deaths.
Maybe I’ll make it to 50.
“See, there’s a ledge we can stand on!”

Up next on the goal list – grow out my hair and donate it
I’ve had it for years and am willing to share.
And I’ve raised two sons. Surely, growing out my hair can’t be as challenging.

Maybe I’ll make it to 50.

I’ve got nine months to go.
